Victory over AI: Study shows that in 12.4% of cases, Google AI Overviews Rank below First Place

Google AI Overviews

Google AI Overviews are summaries that are AI-generated to solve the user’s query and provide insight that is fast and reliable. They also offer a curated view of the topic, allowing users to grab key points and access the most relevant information from all over the web.

The goal of SEO is to improve a website’s visibility and attract organic traffic, including potential customers and users, through search engines.

The biggest impact of AI on seo is that users can now find complete answers without needing to click and open a full website. Due to this, a lot of traffic has been lost from the SEO based websites.

Current studies are opening new chances for SEO to outrank AI.

Google’s AI Overviews have lost about 12.4% of the cases for the first spot, enabling new chances for SEO’s to outrank them and reclaim lost traffic.

The top spot for U.S. desktop search results is up for grabs, for the SEO’s for 12.4% of the time. This change is pretty significant compared to the previous month, which was less than 2% below position 1 according to the research from SEOClarity, an enterprise SEO platform.

What’s intriguing is that Google’s AI Overviews have sparked concern among SEOs and publishers, especially following the loss of clicks and traffic. This tells us that the desired organic traffic is still claimable, and we can outrank the Google AI Overviews.

Records say AI Overviews appear in 19% of all U.S. desktop keyword searches overall. Here’s the latest breakdown of where AI Overviews rank, based on SEOClarity’s research, which factors in SERP features excluding ads:

  • 87.6% of AI Overviews appear in Position 1.
  • 7.6% appear in Position 2.
  • 2.8% appear in position 3.
  • 2% appear in Position 4 or lower.

As for the intent of the queries that trigger AI Overviews:

  • 84.16% are Informational
  • 12.38% are Transactional
  • 3.31% are Navigational
  • 0.15% are Local

They stated :

About buying intent: Websites with more appealing buying intent are likely to overtake the AIOs.

·         Transactional intent jumps from 12.38% to 22.7% in the AIOs that rank 4 or lower.

·         For example, in the query (games on a PS4), the AIOs will be outranked by two PS4 game pages and a popular product carousel.

According to Mark Traphagen, President of product marketing and training at SEOClarity, told Search Engine Land:

·        In other words, Google watches every click the user makes in the presence of AIOs. If the keyword generates more organic results, Google may demote the AIOs for that keyword.

This means that this is opening new chances for SEOs to outrank the Google AI Overviews, which stole the traffic, including costumes and users. And revised SEO Strategies, as well as their execution, can still compete with

AI for the traffic.Bottom line is that SEO strategy and execution still matter!
