Google’s New AI Tool Lets Gmail Write Your Emails

Google has been setting up its game with AI-powered features, and it seems like the ChatGPT effect is in full-swing mode.

The reach of Google’s AI capability is expanding by making its way into popular apps like Docs and Gmail.

One noteworthy addition to Gmail is the “write for me” feature which can write emails on behalf of users.

Google’s AI technologies aim to save time and effort in writing emails. The “write for me” feature can also assist in crafting more effective emails by providing a starting point and suggesting ways to improve your writing.

How to Use This Feature

If you want to write a mail using the “write for me” feature, follow these steps:

1. Open Gmail and click on the “Compose” button.
2. At the bottom of the compose window, you will find the “Help me write” button. Click on it.
3. In the prompt box, briefly describe what your mail is about. For example, you could write “write an email for leave application” or “write an email explaining my absence for a particular event”.
4. Click Create, and Gmail will create a draft of your email. You can edit the draft at your convenience.
5. Once you are satisfied click on the “insert” option.
6. When you are ready click “send” to send the email.

The “help me write” feature is a tool that can create an entire email draft based on simple prompts.

Currently, it is available as a part of the Workspace Labs program.

Few things to keep in mind

1. Try to write a specific prompt, the more detailed your prompt the better the results.

Instead of writing “email to my colleague” write “email to my colleague Frank about a presentation”.

2. Use the “formalize”, “elaborate” and “shorten” buttons to adjust the tone and the draft of your email.

3. The refresh button generates a new draft if needed.

4. The tool cannot handle requests that require specialized knowledge.
